Sam Arnold-Boyd
Cascade Indexing
Wow! Here's why you can entrust your indexing project to me:
Award
I received the 2016 Purple Pen Award for new indexers with my index for A Thousand Cuts: the Bizarre Underground World of Collectors and Dealers Who Saved the Movies by Dennis Bartok and Jeff Joseph (University Press of Mississippi, 2016).
This international award, given by the Institute of Certified Indexers (ICI), is judged anonymously based on ICI's Indexing Best Practices.
Enid Zafran, managing founder of ICI (on the right), presented the award to me in Vancouver, Washington, during the fall meeting of the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the American Society for Indexing.
Many thanks to the ICI for all their work with this award!
Recommendations
"Sam is a talented indexer. She covers the book’s metatopics comprehensively with multiple access points, parallel construction, and accurate page locators. She communicates thoroughly and exhibits a strong collaborative nature resulting in a quality index. It is no wonder that she is the 2016 Winner of the Purple Pen Award from the Institute of Certified Indexers. Plus, it is always a pleasure to work with her."
- Amron Gravett, Wild Clover Book Services, indexing project manager
"Publishers will be hard-pressed to find a better professional indexer or someone who is easier to work with than Sam. She's one of the best indexers I've had the pleasure of working with. It's clear that Sam has strong, innate indexing abilities that have been refined to the point of her consistently creating excellent indexes. She always captures the important tangible and intangible concepts woven throughout each text. Her indexes are useful for readers and she adeptly bridges any gaps between them and each author's terminology and perspective. Capturing each author's tone and letting their perspective guide her indexing decisions is another of Sam's skills that is an extremely rare find in an indexer. Her indexes are nothing short of brilliant."

It was a delight to work with her - she brought patience, a sense of humor, a collaborative spirit, and an incredible knowledge base to this project of creating an index for my book on psychology and spirituality. She went beyond what I expected in also catching a few errors that my proofreading efforts had missed! I could not have asked for more, and cannot recommend her highly enough."
